Popular Xbox repairs
Xbox Series X repair
The Series X draws cool air in at the bottom and pushes hot air out through the grille on top, so anything resting on it, or a cabinet with no airflow, quickly leads to overheating and shutdowns.
Its HDMI port is another weak point. A cable that's yanked or bent at an angle can crack the port's solder joints, leaving you with no signal on the TV. We replace the port and test the picture before the console comes back.
With the power supply built into the console, a Series X that won't turn on needs its internal supply and board tested rather than a new power brick.
Series X repairs
- HDMI port replacement
- Overheating and fan faults
- Disc drive repairs
- Power supply and start-up faults
Xbox Series S repair
The Series S is smaller and all-digital, with no disc drive, but it shares most of the Series X's weak points.
- No picture
- The HDMI port wears in the same way, especially on consoles that get moved around or taken to friends' houses.
- Overheating
- Its large round vent on the side needs space around it, so a Series S tucked against a wall or TV unit can run hot.
- Power faults
- Like the Series X, it has an internal power supply, which we test before replacing anything.
- Storage full
- The 512GB model fills up quickly, and an expansion card or external drive is usually a better answer than a repair.
Xbox One, One S and One X repairs
Older Xbox One consoles are still going strong in plenty of homes. The faults we see on them are usually a worn disc drive, a damaged HDMI port, overheating from years of dust, or a failing hard drive that makes the console painfully slow. On the original Xbox One, the external power brick is worth testing too, as it's a common failure point.
Xbox problems and how we fix them
| What happens | Likely cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| The Xbox logo lights up, then it switches off | A power supply fault or overheating protection | Test the power supply and board, clean the cooling and replace what has failed |
| Console on, but no signal on the TV | A damaged HDMI port or cable | Test with a known-good cable, then replace the HDMI port |
| Loud fan, then sudden shutdowns | Dust build-up and old thermal paste | Deep clean, renew the thermal paste and check the fan |
| Discs not recognised, grinding or won't eject | A worn or faulty disc drive | Repair or replace the disc drive |
| Stuck on the green startup screen | Corrupted system software | Run the Startup Troubleshooter or an offline update, then check the storage |
| Controller drifts or bumpers stick | Worn thumbstick modules or broken bumper parts | Replace the worn parts and test every input |
Xbox won't start? Try these first
- Do a full power cycleHold the Xbox button on the front of the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down, unplug it for a minute, then switch it back on.
- Plug it straight into the wallSkip extension leads and surge protectors while testing, and reseat both ends of the power cable.
- Try another HDMI cable and TV inputA startup chime with a black screen is often the cable or the TV input, not the console.
- Open the Startup TroubleshooterWith the console off, hold the Pair and Eject buttons, press the Xbox button, and keep holding for 10 to 15 seconds until you hear two tones. On the Series S and All-Digital consoles, which have no Eject button, hold only Pair.
- Reset, but keep your gamesIn the troubleshooter, choose Reset this Xbox, then Reset and keep my games & apps. It reinstalls the system software without deleting your games.
Xbox controller repairs
Xbox Wireless Controllers wear out in familiar ways: thumbsticks that drift, bumpers that stop clicking and triggers that stick. We replace the worn parts and test every button before sending it back.
Newer controllers charge and connect over USB-C, while Xbox One controllers use micro-USB. If a wired connection or a rechargeable battery pack has stopped working, the port is often the cause.

Xbox repair FAQs
How much does Xbox repair cost in Manchester?
It depends on the model and the fault. An HDMI port replacement costs less than a power supply or board repair, for example. Diagnosis is free, and you'll get a fixed price before any work starts.
Can you fix an Xbox Series X that won't turn on?
Usually. We test the built-in power supply and the board to find the real cause, which can be anything from a failed power supply to overheating protection. Try a full power cycle first, as that sometimes solves it.
Do you repair the Xbox Series S?
Yes. We repair Series S HDMI ports, power faults, overheating and software problems. As it has no disc drive, disc repairs don't apply.
Can you replace an Xbox HDMI port?
Yes, and it's one of the most common Xbox repairs. We fit a new port and test the picture on a TV before your console comes back.
Will I lose my games and saves?
Hardware repairs don't normally touch your storage, and Xbox saves sync to the cloud automatically when you're signed in online.
How long does an Xbox repair take?
Many repairs, including HDMI ports and deep cleans, are finished the same day when we have the part. Disc drives and power supplies sometimes need ordering, and we'll tell you how long when we quote.
Do you repair Xbox controllers?
Yes. We fix thumbstick drift, sticking bumpers and triggers, and charging port faults on Xbox Series and Xbox One controllers.
Do you collect Xboxes for repair?
We do, at no charge, anywhere in Greater Manchester. Just send the console and its power cable, plus any controller that needs fixing.
